“Hate crime” has become a new concept in debates in Sweden.

Hate crimes are crimes committed against individuals of certain minority groups, which are generally not held in high esteem. To qualify as the victim of “hate crime”, one has to either belong to an ethnic minority group or be a homosexual. Normal Swedes can not sue for “hate crimes”.

Now pressure groups are seeking to change the law by which the “hate crime” suits were exclusively started by a prosecutor. Now the “hate crime” advocates want the victims be able to start the legal action themselves, however, only if the victim is a homosexual or a member of a minority group.

What consequences will this bring to freedom of speech, for example, to be critical about the immigration policy in Sweden or to challenge homosexual organizations setting the standard for “The New Sweden”?
